Course Outline pcec 2005-11-24
Session 1 (3 hours)
1. An overview of CDC English Language Education Key Learning Area Curriculum Guide (P1-S3) 2002 as well as the CDC syllabus for English Language (S1-S5) 1999, and identify areas that could be enhanced by IT in Education;
2. Introduction to the MMLC including the system, functions and operations;
3. Showing functions and operational procedures of 'Group Discussion';
4. Demonstration of using MMLC to conduct English lessons, including individual activities (e.g. pronunciation/phonics exercises) and group activities (e.g. online debate) in order to improve students' English listening and speaking skills;
5. Sharing of experience on production of teaching materials through group discussion;
6. Realization of common MMLC system faults and remedial solutions;
7. Discussion of assignment on the design of learning activities using MMLC (To be completed as group work by teacher participants)

Session 2 (3 hours)
1. Introducing software for production of teaching materials used in listening classes;
2. Presentation of selected assignments with instructor's feedback;
3. Developing and editing teaching materials on spoken English;
4. Capturing audio programmes for teaching and students' practices with suggestions on the means to clear the copyright;
5. Introducing freeware and web resources that can be used for interactive learning and teaching of English in MMLC;
6. Extending the function and effectiveness of MMLC by integrating with the Learning Management System of schools.


Course Attendance Certificate and six CPD hours will only be awarded to participants with satisfactory attendance (100% of the contact hours*) and submission of assignment before Session 2.

* Being late and early leave without prior consent will not be counted as achieving 100% attendance.
